Real Salt Lake closed the gap on Western Conference leaders Los Angeles Galaxy during the latest round of action in Major League Soccer (MLS).
The MLS Cup holders took advantage of the Galaxy's surprise slip-up in New England to pull within six points of the league's top club.
Salt Lake took care of business in Thursday's lone match, with a 1-0 victory at Chicago Fire. Robbie Findley's penalty late in the first half and Nick Rimando's fifth straight shutout meant the Utah-based outfit extended their unbeaten streak to 10 matches.
Six games took place on Saturday, with New England Revolution defeating the Galaxy 2-0 at Gillette Stadium. Marko Perovic's goal in the 67th minute snapped New England's 347-minute scoreless streak, while midfielder Sainey Nyassi added another in the 74th minute to help snap New England's three-match losing streak. In Southern Ontario, Toronto FC extended a club-record unbeaten streak to 11 matches after beating Colorado Rapids 1-0 on Fuad Ibrahim's goal in the 61st minute. Toronto have not lost a game in all competitions since May 1. This includes an eight-match unbeaten streak in MLS and an undefeated league run at BMO Field.
New York Red Bulls and D.C. United played out a less-than-stellar 0-0 draw at Red Bull Arena. Goalkeepers Bouna Coundoul of the Red Bulls and Troy Perkins of United each made one good save in a match that featured just five shots on goal. In Texas, Houston Dynamo goalkeeper Pat Onstad made two saves, while his Columbus Crew counterpart William Hesmer made one stop, as the Dynamo and Crew also played to a 0-0 draw at Robertson Stadium.
Philadelphia Union suffered their first defeat at their new PPL Park home after falling 2-1 to San Jose Earthquakes. Arturo Alvarez's late goal secured the win for Frank Yallop's side after Cornell Glen also found the scoresheet for San Jose. Fred scored a consolation goal for the Union. In Kansas City, Justin Braun converted two defensive lapses into second-half goals, as Chivas USA beat the Wizards 2-0 for their first victory in more than two months.
The lone match on Sunday saw FC Dallas earn a 1-1 draw at Seattle Sounders FC. David Ferreira scored in the 87th minute to cancel out Fredy Montero's diving header in the 14th minute for the Sounders at Qwest Field.
