Los Angeles Galaxy and Columbus Crew lead their respective conferences after claiming victories over the weekend in Major League Soccer.
Real Salt Lake and FC Dallas were also victorious during the latest round of action in MLS.
On Canada Day, Dan Gargan headed home Fuad Ibrahim's corner in the 85th minute to give Toronto FC a 1-1 draw with Houston Dynamo. Brian Ching's headed goal in the 73rd minute from a corner had given the Texas club the lead at Toronto's BMO Field on Thursday night. Each side played a man short after the 62nd minute following red cards to TFC's Julian de Guzman and Houston's Joseph Ngwenya.
Friday night saw Alvaro Saborio score twice in a five-minute span in the second half, as Salt Lake routed New England Revolution 5-0 to extend their home unbeaten streak to a club-record 18 matches. Fabian Espindola and Jamison Olave had first-half goals, while USA World Cup striker Robbie Findley completed the scoring in the second half.
There were four matches on Saturday, with Columbus defeating Chicago Fire 2-1 through first-half goals from Jason Garey and Adam Moffat. The Fire replied through a Frankie Hejduk own-goal. With the win, the Crew stay top of the MLS Eastern Conference standings. In Frisco, Texas, FC Dallas' David Ferreira converted a penalty for his third goal in four matches, as they defeated Kansas City Wizards 1-0.
In Santa Clara, California, rookie Andy Najar scored in the 54th minute to secure a point for D.C. United at San Jose Earthquakes. San Jose rookie Ike Opara put the Earthquakes up in the 16th minute, cleaning up a deflection after San Jose's Ramiro Corrales and D.C. United's Juan Manuel Pena battled for a corner. In Carson, California, Blair Gavin scored in the 42nd minute to salvage a home point for Chivas USA against Philadelphia Union. Gavin scored his second goal of the season by intercepting Cristian Arrieta's clearance and firing a low 23-yard shot inside the right post. Danny Mwanga gave the Union a 1-0 lead in the 21st minute with a diagonal seven-yard shot inside the right post.
Sunday saw Juan Pablo Angel save New York Red Bulls from defeat on a wet and dreary evening at Colorado Rapids. The home side opened the scoring in the 15th minute on Omar Cummings' fourth goal of the season during the 1-1 draw. In Carson, California, Edson Buddle and Juninho scored to lead Los Angeles to a 3-1 victory over Seattle Sounders FC. Seattle's Steve Zakuani scored his fifth goal in the 66th minute, but Sounders defender James Riley conceded an own-goal in the 77th minute when Alan Gordon's right-wing cross hit the sliding Riley in the leg and rolled into the net for the Galaxy's third goal.
